Mr. Coan graduated from Colbert County High School in 1977. After attending the University of North Alabama he graduated with a BS degree in 1981 and went into private business. Mr. Coan received his Masters Degree from the University of Alabama A & M in 2004. Both of his children were also educated in the public school system of Colbert County and received college degrees. His daughter, Ashley Keenum has a Masters Degree in Education and is employed with the Colbert County school system also. Mr Coan's son Jeremy received his degree in Agricultural Sciences from Auburn University and is employed with the Lee County School system as an Ag Teacher and football coach.


Mr. Coan started his career with the Colbert County school system in 2004 after being hired as the 7th and 8th grade reading teacher at Colbert County High School. He also taught Computer Science in addition to reading and was hired as the 4th grade math teacher at Hatton Elelmentary School in 2013. After only one year at HES, he transferred to Colbert Heights Elementary as the Reading Coach for K-3. He currently holds this present position.


Mr. Coan and his wife Julie both reside in Leighton, Alabama. They have two children, Ashley and Jeremy, who both attended school in the Colbert County system. He has one grandchild, Rylie, who is his "Pride and Joy".  After Mr. Coan graduated from Colbert County High School in 1977, he attended the University of North Alabama and received his BS degree in 1981. He was employed with Ford Motor Company while attending school and left Ford Motor Company in 1983.

In 1983 Mr. Coan was hired at Reynolds Metals Company and stayed actively employed until 2004 when he left to accept a position with the Colbert County School system. His first placement was with Colbert County High School as the 7th and 8th grade Reading Teacher. After eight years at CCHS, he was transferred to Hatton Elementary School as the 4th Grade Math teacher. After one year at HES he was transferred to Colbert Heights as the K-3 Reading Coach and currently holds this position.

Both Mr. Coan and his wife are members at Leighton Baptist Church where both teach Sunday School classes and Mrs. Coan is the church accountant. They have two children, Ashley and Jeremy. Ashley is a teacher ar Leighton Elementary School and Jeremy is a High School teacher and football coach at Smith Station in Lee County.

Mr. Coan is an avid Hunter and loves spending time outdoors. He also enjoys working on his farms raising cattle and hay in both Leighton and Ford City.
